Newsletter December 2017

We have three new members of staff joining us in the New Year. Sian Pentelow, Karolina Ciesielka and Khadija Begum all with Level 3 childcare qualifications. We look forward to them joining the team!

Charlotte Bundy will be back in January from maternity leave.

Arriving and leaving the setting

Please can we asked parents to be considerate to other parents when collecting or dropping of your children.

Often many parents arrive to collect at rush hour. If you wish to chat to your key worker about your child in detail then please ask to be taken aside or arrange a suitable time to chat so we are able to let other parents in and maintain our ratio. Please can you ensure you sign your child in and out every morning – this is a fire precaution. Do not let other parents into the setting for safeguarding purposes.

In the Moment Planning / Tapestry

Our In the Moment Planning is going well. We have noticed the children are benefiting much more from this type of planning and structure, and are meeting all areas of curriculum. However we will be making a few adjustments in the New Year by adding a slight routine and structure to parts of the day which we feel will be beneficial to the children’s development and learning.

Tapestry is a great way to see how your child is developing please feel free to add comments, videos and pictures of your children on Tapestry. It is important that you have an input in your child’s development.

Thank you to those parents who have been uploading their own pictures / videos we have linked them to your child’s development records.

If you do have any questions about In the Moment Planning or Tapestry, please talk to your child’s key worker.

Thank you everyone for being so understanding about inset days that we have add during the year- these are in conjunction with the Government Funding the Local Authority which ensures all nurseries reach an Ofsted ‘Good or above’ standard of care to ensure funding can be allocated. Enabling staff to be fully upskilled in a full-time nursery often means staff training weekends or after closing. The LA have now approved up to 5 inset days per year to ensure staff are properly trained. To inconvenience you as little as possible we will only take 3 days.

We will be continuing this next year, taking three days to complete training. One of these inset days will be over the Christmas Break as to not be an inconvenience. We will be organising these training days in school holidays and on different days to hopefully cause as little as disruption as possible.

The First inset day will be Monday 12th February 2018

The Second inset day will be Tuesday 7th August

The Third inset day will be Friday 28th December

Forrest School Training

Emma and Becky recently completed Forrest school training, we will be assessed in 6 months and then hopefully qualified by the Summer!!

Teeth Cleaning

Teeth Cleaning has been going really well in the Preschool room, we will be doing this in Hedgehog room from January 2018. We will be providing the tooth brushes and toothpaste for each child. If you have any question please speak to your child’s key worker.

30 hours funding

Children that turn three between September 2017 – December 2017 and are due to receive government funding in January 2018, you must apply for your 30hours code before December 31st. I would recommend doing this in November as codes can take a few days to return.

Parents that already have a code these will need to be re-applied for. The code will stay the same but it has to be reconfirmed.

Reception School Applications

Reminder that the closing date for applications for schools is the 15th January after this date your child may not get a school of your choice but a place at any school with availability.

Can we please remind parents to provide slippers for their children when in the setting and to ensure they are the correct size for your child.

The weather is getting very cold and icy now, so please ensure you wrap up your child warm – we will still be using the outdoor area. This will include coats, gloves, hats and scarfs.

Policy of the Month

This month’s policy is the ‘Lock Down Policy’ please see attached. If you have any questions regarding this please speak to a member of staff

Christmas Closure

We will be closing on Friday 22nd December at 6.30pm and reopening on Tuesday 2nd January 2018 normal time of 7.45am. During the Christmas Break on the 28th December all staff will be completing refresher training on Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values.

We would like to wish everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a very Happy New Year!!

Kindest Regards

Emma, Becky and Lisa
